The idea for Taggies came from two moms who noticed how much their little ones enjoyed fiddling or scrubbing the satin edges of blankets and labels on toys and clothes. Little ones do this for comfort and reassurance and when they are falling asleep. They also do this as part of how they explore the world around them, feeling new textures and shapes. Most of us know perhaps the most famous little person who had a “safety blanket” – Linus from the cartoon “Peanuts”.
Scientific studies have shown that children who have such a “safety blanket” are able to use it as a “confidence enhancer”. It allows them to be more confident in new situations such as starting in kindergarten or kindergarten. This psychological benefit is widely reported and is certainly confirmed by my experience as a mom and grandmother!
There is now a very large range of Taggies products on the market. Little Taggies blankets are perhaps my favorite for little ones. Each blanket is 12 inches square and has twenty different labels sewn around the edges. All taggie blankets are wonderfully soft and comfortable next to baby’s skin and are also quick to wash and dry.
I also love the range called “Take A Long Taggies”. These are cleverly designed with a teething ring that doubles as a clip for attaching the toy to the stroller or car seat. There are also large blankets with tags and a whole range of toys that have creaks or rattles inside. My favorite has to be the elephant which is so funny!
A Taggies blanket or toy makes a wonderful gift for a newborn. It’s nice to think that such a gift could be so special to a little one and the thing they snuggle up with every night. I found the entire Taggies range online on sale at great prices, so they’re easy to find and lightweight, so postage isn’t expensive.
