As a parent of a child who wants to learn how to skateboard, there are two questions you will have when helping to throw your young skater.
First of all, what equipment should my child use to get started? The answer is a skateboard and safety gear. Skateboarding first: never buy a skateboard from a toy store or large discount chain. It may have nice graphics, but it will end up causing a lot of frustration for your child. Think about it, you didn’t use a toy vacuum cleaner to clean your first apartment. The same goes for sports equipment. No need to spend a fortune, but please buy a real skateboard from a nearby skate shop or online. Also, when you shop, buy what’s called a complete skateboard with the board, wheels, trucks, and duct tape. If you have to select each item, it will drive you crazy and most likely you will get it wrong.
The next question is where to skateboard. You’ll need him or her some help, assuming you’re not a skater yourself.
