My dog died.
I was devastated! My heart felt excruciating pain and loneliness. My life has been erased. Her wriggling wasn’t expecting me, and being in an empty house was more than I could bear.
I watched endless months of weekly photos, daily puppy updates, rescue videos and web cams. Anything! I really didn’t even care because my heart was still crying to the core and my tears were still flowing. However, I felt compelled to keep watching the updates no matter how upset they made me feel.
Then this fluffy ball of fur dragging a BIG stuffed toy into its mouth gleefully zoomed in on my computer screen. My heart has raced. I must have seen, reviewed and stored that video hundreds of times. I “felt” it in the soul (sign 1). I called, she was available even though she was 2500 miles away. I was thinking too far to make the little man fly with stopovers. (Signal 2) As the Universe would like, the airline added a non-stop holiday flight from that area to our airport, so now I had no excuse. I was free for years now and a new puppy, well …
I talked and questioned the puppy’s guardian until she was probably really tired of me. In conversation, she jokingly referred to him as a “bad boy”. I asked why. She claimed that she had what looked like a B on her right hip and would send me a photo. (Mark 3) the image sent chills down my spine and all my friends in a chorus of “what don’t you get?” He was already being talked about on a higher level than any of us knew at the time. It was as if God had assigned my signature monogram on the hip to an angel, so I wouldn’t be so “human” that I didn’t understand that this dog was supposed to be mine.
With a tired, frightened and excited heart I met him at the airport VERY Apprehensive! What if I got the wrong puppy and we didn’t log in? I had never chosen a puppy from a distance. He jumped out of his crate and sat immediately in front of me with all the 7 pounds of 9-week fluff. He looked up and stared directly into my eyes as if to say where have you been? Now let’s get on with our life. Then he jumped into my arms and slept up to my house which had now become our home.
I called him Friend. He answered his “old” name without missing a beat. He knew where his bed was, he recognized the toys from his past life and picked them up in the same place they should have been! He didn’t even inspect the new toys, he wanted HIS toys! He talks, hugs and does all the things that all the dogs in my soul “have done”. When I look into his eyes we never broke up. He is my “little dog”, my best friend. When my heart asked where you were, his spirit replied: I had to swap my old body for this new one in order to be back in your life. At 10 weeks he knew and responded to all the old dog’s commands, no training was needed. He’s my old grown dog with a few puppy moments except he’s running “wide open”, he’s learning how to make those new feet work and he’s a chewing machine!
I am fortunate to have delicate paws that caress my face to wake me up every morning. All the quirky little habits, routines, traits, favorite toys, foods, places and tricks known only to my soul have returned to my world in another earthly form of “monogrammed” fur as Friend.
If you’ve lost your pet, guide dog, companion animal, assistance dog, therapy dog, soul dog, and forever hairy baby, don’t lose hope. Listen to the desires of your heart, observe your dreams and follow the knowledge and intuition of your soul. If you feel like you want to cling to your pet’s beds and toys, there is a reason, part of your soul knows they will come back. Every dog’s soul is a spirit made up of eternal energy that lives forever in all that he is.
When he is your soul pet, animal spirit guide or spiritual teacher in animal form, God / the Universe honors his choice to reincarnate to be with you many times in various physical bodies. Know that your pet is not gone forever. Give their spirit time to choose a new body. You will know when you see them! “Mom, I’m home!”
Here are some signs that your pet may have reincarnated:
1. Listen and follow the timing and guidance of your inner impulses to seek their new bodily form. You will “know” if puppy, rescue dog, animal shelter, newspaper advertisement, internet search, listen and trust!
2. Never overlook the small details and simply pass them off as unworthy of attention.
Follow the details and trust that they are correct. There are no coincidences.
3. Look into the eyes of your pets at the window of their soul, you will know and recognize your connection.
4. Ask questions and listen to the answers with your heart.
5. If you feel like you want to hold onto your pet’s beds and toys, there is a reason, part of your soul knows they will come back.
Sometimes, when they return, they embody a new trait that you hoped they would have, in addition to the previous traits as a further answer to your prayer. The reincarnation period in which they return can be several hours or more.
There are many pet bereavement and loss groups and animal reincarnation books available to aid you in your recovery. Internet resources can provide blogs about pet past life and animal reincarnation, space pet reincarnation discussion forums will help you cope with the loss of your mate. Listen to your heart, you will know if your beloved pet will reincarnate and say “I’m home!”
